Before Japanese industry developed to the extent that it has today, the founder of PILOT, who was a seafarer, aspired
to create something about which Japan could boast to the world, and so developed Japan's first purely domestic
fountain pen. The Company began to produce and sell the pen in 1918. This was when the Company was established. For
over a century since then, PILOT has continued to play a role in the culture of writing. Today, the Company, as an
integrated manufacturer, sells a wide range of ballpoint pens, mechanical pencils, and other writing instruments, in
addition to fountain pens, in over 190 countries and regions. It has grown to become a truly world-class company.
In recent years, people's lifestyles and the ways they think, work, and learn have been changing. There have been
significant changes in the environment for writing instruments. For all employees to work collaboratively as one
team to adapt to changes in the business environment and move forward in 2022, the Company and the Group have
redefined the Group's raison d'être. The new purpose of the PILOT Group is "Our Creations Inspire Creativity."
The act of writing is deeply rooted in human culture. It is connected with thinking, creating, and recording. PILOT
has been thinking outside the box and developing innovative products, including the Capless, Dr. Grip, and Frixion,
and helping people of all generations think and create through writing instruments. Under "Our Creations Inspire
Creativity," we will bring in new ideas flexibly and continue to evolve. Utilizing the various technologies
developed for making writing instruments, we will expand our non-writing instruments businesses, especially the toy
business and industrial materials business, now and in the next generation. Meanwhile, the Group will pursue
initiatives to achieve sustainable growth and contribute to resolving environmental and societal issues. We are
