Questions about the company

When was the company established?

It was established in January 2002 as Pilot Group Holdings Corporation, a pure holding company, through a share transfer jointly by three PILOT Group companies (Pilot Corporation, The Pilot Ink Co., Ltd. and The Pilot Precision Co., Ltd.)

Later, in July 2004, it was merged with PILOT Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary and an operating company, into a holding company and changed the company name to PILOT Corporation, which is its current name.

Our history goes back to the establishment of Namiki Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in January 1918.

The company name was later changed to The Pilot Pen Co., Ltd. in 1938 and to Pilot Corporation in 1989.

The Pilot Ink Co., Ltd. was established in 1950 with its predecessor being Nagoya Ink Plant of The Pilot Pen Co., Ltd.

The Pilot Precision Co., Ltd. was established as The Pilot Kiko Co., Ltd. in 1960, renamed The Pilot Precision Co., Ltd. in 1975, and merged with PILOT Corporation in July 2008.

Where does the company name, PILOT, come from?

It comes from the fact that our founders, Ryosuke Namiki and Masao Wada, had been mariners. The name “Pilot” is from a maritime pilot, who guides large vessels.

Further, “Suisui-Oekaki” features the use of ink that becomes transparent and makes the background color visible when it is wet, while it is opaque and hides the background color in a dry state.
